Porter-Cable 6605 Fiber/Cement Shear by Porter-Cable
Product DetailsManufacturer: Porter-Cable Model: 6605 Accessories:
Description of Porter-Cable 6605 Fiber/Cement ShearCutting cement board has always been a messy proposition, with dust flying everywhere. But here comes Porter-Cable's 6605 Cement Siding Shear, and the job's no problem. The shears neatly make straight and curved cuts with a minimum radius of 7 inches -- a good, tight turn that's impossible with a circular saw. The waste kerf is just ? inch, and unlike cutting with a circular saw, there's hardly any dust at all. When the blades start to wear, it's easy enough to swap them from left to right until you've used all four sides of the blades to a 50 percent wear pattern. The head rotates a complete 360 degrees to accommodate any cutting angle (so your body doesn't have to); the handle's got a nice, soft grip and the comfortable trigger has a lock-on button for easy-on-your-hand continuous cutting. Remodelers and contractors, we think you'll want to set aside your circular saws and reach for this shear when cement board needs to be cut.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste Amazon.com Product Description Whether you are a professional or a do-it-yourselfer, this 6.8 amp fiber/cement shear from Porter-Cable is a must have. It will cut any type of cement board up to 5/16"-thick. It makes cutting a breeze while it produces minimal dust. Due to its electronic variable-speed from 0 to 2,500 spm, cuts with this shear were much cleaner and accurate than with a circular saw. Although the blades are long-lasting, they are reversible and it is easy to flip when one side gets dull. This shear is comfortable even after a long days work thanks to its multi-position belt clip and multi-position soft-grip handle. Technical Details Power: 6.8 amp motor, 0-2,500 strokes per minute, two-stage gear reduction. Max capacity: 5/16 inch. Tool weight: 4.8 pounds. What's in the Box Porter-Cable 6605 Fiber/Cement Shear
Tools and Hardware Reviews of Porter-Cable 6605 Fiber/Cement ShearCustomer Review: Pretty darn good tool! Summary: 4 StarsI had been using Fiber board blades quite some time for Hardi planks and backers. I decided to break down and get the Hardi shears because the dust from the blades was horrible. I was amazed at how well it worked. It is light weight, very easy to control and keep straight, even on rip cuts. The variable speed is very convenient. It also has a handy belt clip built in.
It seems relatively pricy considering it only has a 6.8 amp motor (maybe a drill motor, but is definitely adequate). I had trouble justifying the price till I actually used the tool, and now I wish I had purchased one a long time ago.
I really do like this tool and would recommend it anyone however I have one major complaint. The trigger lock is located exactly where your thump rest and will accidentally engage frequently. I have found this problem on other tools. The trigger lock should be located ergonomically accessible, but not in a location that makes accidental engagement so imminent.
Hence the Four Stars...
